ABOUT Timber & Smoke
Timber & Smoke is the printed journal for the modern pipe smoker.
This venture originally began as a YouTube channel. Like many newer smokers, I learned much in my early days of pipe smoking through the internet and specifically, the YouTube Pipe Community (YTPC). I wanted to partake and join in that community and began creating and sharing (with some rather clickbaity) videos. Over time, the Timber & Smoke channel began to grow, as did my love for the pipe and vision for what I wanted T&S to become.
Pipe & Tobacco magazine was already long gone by the time I picked up the pipe. P&T was and still is today the standard for pipe magazines. It ran for over 20 years and was headed by folks we consider to be legends of the pipe, and was a publication that did a lot of good for this leaf we love. As my love for pipes and tobacco grew, so did my desire to learn more. I didn’t want to only learn from digital media though. I wanted books, printouts, physical and tangible means to soak in the words of our pipe predecessors. Thus, the idea for the magazine was born.
The question was posed numerous times - “Everything is going digital, why print a physical magazine? There’s no market for that anymore.” Perhaps that’s true, but pipe people are a strange bunch like that. In order to create something that lasts and remains after your smoke like the pipe you hold, Timber & Smoke magazine began. With the help of Nathanael Hummel of Veritas Entertainment, we were able to put together a collection of articles for the first issue. It was a bit of a hodgepodge, but it was something.
Timber & Smoke is created and produced by pipe smokers, for pipe smokers. An independent print journal dedicated to pipe culture, reflection, and the pursuit of a slower life. Built to last and printed with intentionality, I hope you enjoy the tales that unfold.
